St Mary's & St Peter's is a member of the Scottish Episcopal Church, in the Diocese of Brechin.   It is part of the world-wide family of churches known as the Anglican Communion, along with the Church of England, the Episcopal Church of the USA (ECUSA) and many others.

We are in full communion with Anglican churches throughout the world and extend a warm welcome to all who would like to join in our worship.

Our church is situated in the beautiful Mid Links area of the town, close to the Museum and Montrose Academy.

St Mary's & St Peter's was formed by the union of two congregations.    The congregation of St Mary's was descended from Episcopalian and Jacobite sympathisers who left the Presbyterian Church of Scotland in 1690.   St Peter's was a qualified English Chapel under the jurisdiction of the Bishop of Durham.    The two congregations united in 1920.

There has been a church on the site in the Mid Links from 1720.   The present building dates from 1858, replacing an earlier one which had been devastated by fire.    However, the churchyard walls and gate are original.   The gate was built in Gothenburg, a memorial to the Baltic trade which was important in the history of Montrose.

The church was remodelled at the union.   The High Altar and the Triptych in the Lady chapel are well worth viewing.

The large pendant cross in the chancel was commissioned by the congregation as a memorial to the dead of World War I.

There is a corner for prayer and meditation in the Lady Chapel, through the glass door to the right of the chancel.

Our rector is the Very Reverend Ian Stewart (tel. no. 01674 672652), who is also Rector of our Linked charge of King David of Scotland, Inverbervie.
